Practically all Chinese characters are made out of in any event one radical. Customarily, Chinese word references were grouped by radicals, and numerous advanced word references despite everything go through this technique for looking characters. Other order techniques utilized in word references incorporate phonetics and the quantity of strokes utilized for drawing characters. Other than their convenience for classifying characters, radicals likewise give signs to importance and articulation. This is especially valuable when characters additionally have a related subject. For instance, most characters having to do with water or dampness all offer the radical æ °' (shuç ). The radical æ °' all alone is additionally a Chinese character, which means water. A few radicals have more than one structure. The radical æ °' (shuç ), for instance, can likewise be composed as æ ° µ when it is utilized as a component of another character. This radical is called ä ¸â°Ã§â ¹Ã¦ °' (sä n diçžn shuç ), which implies three drops of water as, surely, the extreme looks like three droplets.à These substitute structures are seldom utilized autonomously since they don't remain as Chinese characters on their own.à Therefore, radicals can be a valuable instrument for recalling the importance of Chinese characters. Today, the Chinese word for back (of the body) is currently spoken to by the character èÆ'Å" (bã ¨i) . Radical Phonetic Compounds These are characters which join phonetic parts with semantic segments. These speak to roughly 80 percent of present day Chinese characters. You have just considered guides to be radical phonetic mixes as examined earlier.â Borrowings The last classification â⬠borrowings â⬠is for characters that speak to more than single word. In fact, if you havenââ¬â¢t written an essay lately, read on. Essays are a great addition to every writerââ¬â¢s portfolio. Over the next few weeks, weââ¬â¢ll be taking a peek at different types of essays; weââ¬â¢ll leave it up to you which essay examples you choose for your portfolio. But first, letââ¬â¢s explore the different types of essays. The Narrative Essay Have you ever read a Chicken Soup for the Soul book? Okay theyââ¬â¢re a little cheesy. But most of the essay examples within those books are great examples of the narrative essay. A narrative essay is one which tells a story, and thereââ¬â¢s usually a lesson to be learned at the end. If youââ¬â¢re charged with writing a narrative essay, there are certain attributes that your delivery has to have. Most importantly, youââ¬â¢ll need to ask from what point of view the essay should be written. Most narrative essays are written in the first person. ââ¬Å"When I was growing up, I loved to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas.â⬠This would be a great introduction to a narrative essay. Itââ¬â¢s personal, and written in the first person. It leads the reader to believe that thereââ¬â¢s a point to stating the dietary persuasion of the speaker. A narrative essay such as this one may end with a moral. ââ¬Å"Those fruit flies impacted me in a deeply curious way. Itââ¬â¢s for that reason Iââ¬â¢ve switched to eating grapes and kiwi.â⬠Itââ¬â¢s probably rare that a client will hire you to write a narrative essay, unless heââ¬â¢s looking for you to write his memoir. With that said, however, you may choose to include a narrative essay of your own on your portfolio, or submit one to a publication. There are many book publishers and magazines which will pay you nicely for your own original narrative essay. The Persuasive Essay The persuasive essay is exactly as the name implies. The writer of a persuasive essay has come to a realization, and wants to make you believe that his idea is the truth. Persuasive essays are used frequently in academics. For example, a student may be given an assignment to write how Piggy was the bad guy in Lord of the Flies. Within that essay, that student aims to convince you that Piggy did indeed deserve to meet his demise. You probably wonââ¬â¢t find a lot of persuasive essays in coffee table books. But you can find them outside of academia. A good example of a persuasive essay is the sermon a preacher delivers. TED Talks are usually persuasive essays in spoken form, also. ââ¬Å"Young people have a tendency to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas,â⬠a persuasive essay might begin. The introduction is followed by two or three points which serve to prove the point of the author. Is it a good idea to eat so many apples and bananas? A bad one? Maybe the author dislikes fruit in general. The points within the article lead up to a conclusion: ââ¬Å"Kids today have a plethora of options available to them. Limiting a childââ¬â¢s diet to apples and bananas will most certainly contribute to the fall of human civilization.â⬠By the end of the persuasive essay, itââ¬â¢s clear what the author intends to impart to his audience. Apples and bananas arenââ¬â¢t the way to go, and the persuasive essay can convince the reader of just that. Argumentative Essay The argumentative essay is one in which all Facebook trolls will delight. Take a commonly held belief ââ¬â any ââ¬â and find the opposing viewpoint. Express that viewpoint in a nicely worded piece of literature and BAM! Youââ¬â¢ve got an argumentative essay. If you include to chooseà argumentative essay examples in your portfolio, be careful. Writing about religion or politics can send clients quickly running in the opposite direction. But there are plenty of fair game topics out there for you to explore. ââ¬Å"Why is Android superior to the iPhone?â⬠ââ¬Å"Are Gluten-free Diets a Fad?â⬠ââ¬Å"When I was a kid, I loved to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas. As it would turn out, I was a step ahead of the gluten-free gang.â⬠While the introductory paragraph may contain a personal anecdote, the remainder of the argumentative essay should be factual, and probably written in the second or third person. ââ¬Å"While only 3.5 million people have celiac disease, an exponentially higher number of people are on a gluten free diet.â⬠Taking a popular stance and dissecting it is par for the course in an argumentative essay. If youââ¬â¢re challenged to write one of these, weââ¬â¢d just advise you to be careful. Donââ¬â¢t alienate your clients. Comparative Essays ââ¬Å"I like to eat apples and bananas, but which is better?â⬠A comparative essay is one which takes two commonly held viewpoints and exposes similarities and contrasts between them. While itââ¬â¢s not always the case, comparative essays are usually written objectively. These essay examples aim to show the difference between, say, apples and bananas. Whatââ¬â¢s good about apples, and whatââ¬â¢s great about bananas? ââ¬Å"Apples are crunchy, and bananas squish in your mouth. However, both are delicious.â⬠Comparative essays are very frequently assigned to students. Thereââ¬â¢s a very broad range of use for them in academics, whether Religious Studies majors are comparing theologies or Language Arts students are comparing protagonists in literary works. You may also come across comparative essays in your work as a freelancer. Sometimes even simple product reviews can be examples of short comparative essays. We have comparative essays on the Freelance With Us website, too. Take a look at our article on Word vs. Google Docs, or our piece on Scrivener vs Storyist. So while these certainly arenââ¬â¢t all the different types of essays, the four essay examples weââ¬â¢ve outlined are the most popularly encountered in both school and freelancing. Over time, weââ¬â¢ll take a more in depth look at each of these, and show you how to perfect the art of essay writing. The purpose of this paper will be, first, to present Kaufmannââ¬â¢s view and, second, to apply these same characteristics to Platoââ¬â¢s dialogues in general and to the characters in Platoââ¬â¢s dialogues, particularly Socrates. Unfortunately, Kaufmann would disagree with me. He argues throughout his book that Plato is anti-tragic. This paper will not address Kaufmannââ¬â¢s argument, although much that is said here is an attempt to refute his reading of Plato. The most striking claim Kaufmann makes about Sophoclesââ¬â¢ play is, ââ¬Å"Sophocles constructs his whole plot around Oedipusââ¬â¢ relentless quest for truth, although the old story wa s not a story about honesty at allâ⬠¦The central spring of the action of Sophoclesââ¬â¢ tragedy is not, as it well might have been, fate, but rather Oedipusââ¬â¢ imperious passion for the truthâ⬠¦All the conflicts in the tragedy are generated by the kingââ¬â¢s quest for the truth (121-123). I would add that it is not a quest for truth in any sense, but a quest for self-knowledge, which drives Oedipus and which ends when he finally comes to know who he is. Oedipus is presented as a man who follows the Delphi oracle, ââ¬Å"Know thyselfâ⬠to its bitter end. INTRODUCTION In a competitive world, Hertz is a company that rents cars. It is the world? s largest enterprise and competes against thousands of companies in hundreds of countries. Hertz is operating approximately in 8,100 in 145 countries worldwide. Its goal is to pay attention on customer acquisition and loyalty. Hertz is the first company that has incorporated information technologies in 1970. Moreover, it is a pioneer in mobile commerce applications like, for example, quick rentals, instant returns, in-car cellular phones, NeverLost onboard, additional customer services, car locations and Wi-Fi connection. The year 2004 was the debut of Wi-Fi ââ¬â wireless, high-speed Internet service. Available in more than 50 U. S. airport locations. Its vision is to be the first choice brand among customers for vehicle and equipment rental/ leasing as well as total mobility solutions. We evolve to present a concept of our minicase by answering questions below: QUESTIONS 1. Which of these applications are intrabusiness in nature? Wireless intrabusiness is a kind of application that is developed inside of the company. It has been around since early 1900s in the non-Internet environment. Such applications include wireless networking used to pick items out of storage in warehouses via PCs, based on delivery status updates that enter on PCs inside collection of data. By now a vast number of Intrabusiness applications had been implemented inside enterprises. Since the early 1900s, Wireless intrabusiness application in the non-Internet environment has been around. We will write a custom essay sample on Hertz Goes Wireless specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Hertz Goes Wireless specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Hertz Goes Wireless specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer For example: -wireless networking used to pick items out of storage in warehouses via PCs mounted on forklifts -delivery-status updates entered on PCs inside distribution trucks -collection of data such as competitor? s inventories in stores and customer orders using a handheld (but not networked) device, from which data were transferred to company headquarters each evening. The intrabusiness applications that Hertz uses are: Instant returns helps you to make your check-out in less than a minute via wireless system that is connected to a data-base. So, thanks to automatic technologies there is a reduction in time and costs. The reduction in costs is caused by modern systems which makes the work of the organization easier when it uses automatic calculations. Car locations is a system that has its basis on Global Positioning Systems (GPS) that determines the precise location of the vehicle and can direct its automatic steering. Because of the rows GPS is very exact, so the company knows where their clients are staying every time. Hertz benefits are: a total control of its cars, prevention of a possible crime committed by customers (for instance stealing a car or trying to use fake customer data). . Identify any finance- and marketing-oriented applications The finance-oriented applications are: -Quick rentals This is a finance application because you don? t have to do transactions that wouldn? t be necessary. It allows quick figuring and billing of customers on the moment of giving back the car that had been rented. For example, this system is part of a national wireless network that can check credit cards , examine your rental history, determine which airline to credit your loyalty mileage to, and more. This application does everything for you because you only have to arrive at the airport and go to the slot where the car is waiting for you. It has services like greets attendance, confirmation of reservations and Wi-Fi which transmits your data to the renting booth. With the reduction of work connected with filling papers, this can be seen as an advantage for the company. Moreover, this system operated over a WLAN which is a type of local area network that uses high-frequency radio waves rather than wires to communicate between computers or devices. A WLAN typically extends an existing wired LAN and is built by attaching a wireless access point (AP) to the edge of the wired network. -Instant returns Because this application uses a handheld device that automatically calculates the costs of the rental and prints out a receipt for the renter. The information system that the company uses is data-base via wireless. This is an example how the internet supports companies in financial areas. The marketing-oriented applications are: -NeverLost Onboard You can get information about the locations of the nearest hospitals, gas stations, restaurants, and tourist areas. This system was introduced for first time in 1995 in the USA and was exported to Europe ten years later. -Additional customer services The customer can receive city guides, all the locations guides, city maps and other tools. This can be an advantage for Hertz, because the company provides all additional features to the customers, which is the perfect way to attract and retain its recipient. -Wi-Fi connection Wi-Fi is a technology that allows computers to share a network wirelessly without the need to connect to a commercial network. It usually consists of a router, which transmits the signal, and one or more adapters, which receive the signal and are attached to computers. This is a marketing application that became available in all major airports, hospitals, restaurants, tourist areas served by Hertz in the USA. Moreover, you can be connected across the entire world. 3. What are the benefits to Hertz of knowing exactly where each of its cars are? As a renter, how do you feel about this capability? In our opinion there is a number of reasons that Hertz Company benefits of knowing exactly where each car is. Firstly it is very useful to have GPS system that the philosophy of Hertz is mainly working on. Thanks to this system, the company can find a car in case of an offense by a customer. So the client can? t take advantage and steal the rented car. It proves that by having the knowledge where each of its cars are, Hertz can detect the vehicle immediately. ?Secondly, it is important to know where each car is exactl y, because when something wrong happens to the driver or vehicle, any accident no matter how serious it is, the company can for example send an ambulance to the place of the incident immediately. Or it can provide another vehicle, what builds a feeling of loyalty among customers and helps to avoid stress or time wasted. ?Thirdly, thanks to this kind of knowledge the firm cares about its own business. Thatââ¬â¢s because in some contracts while renting a vehicle there are kilometers limit, and after transgression of it the company possesses information about the location of the client in that moment, in case of trying not to pay for over limit. Also in some countries there is a law that doesnââ¬â¢t allow leaving it while renting a car. ?Besides, this system can prevent crimes. We mean that in case when the customer brings illegal stuff in a car rented from Hertz, the company can hand in information to the police about the suspected car and customer. As a renter, for us there are two sides for this phenomenon. On the one hand we would feel safe, and not worried wherever we go, because the GPS system would not allow us to get lost, itââ¬â¢s always satellite- controlled steering. Moreover, thanks to the fact that Hertz is monitoring the vehicle it helps us to avoid stress in case of an accident. This technology would alert employees of the company or the emergencies immediately. In addition, we think that when rental company possesses a piece of information about our speed may be profitable, because we stay in touch with people working on this system who can help us how to avoid any commitment for speed limit or conflict with law. On the other hand, we have also ethical issues in our minds which are strictly related to standards of right and wrong. This has the power to damage the image of the organization and its moral as well. It is obvious that what is considered ethical by one person may seem the opposite to another. This advantage of the localization of the companyââ¬â¢s cars are an invasion of our privacy. We are a bit hesitant to have our movements tracked every day, even if itââ¬â¢s for our good, and even if we have nothing to hide. We are not convinced enough that with a full consciousness of being observed we would drive a rented car with pleasure and convenience. 4. What competitive edge can Hertz get from the system? Michael E. Porter said that competitive advantage to value a company is able to create an advantage for their customers in the form of lower prices than competitors for equivalent benefits or the provision of differentiated products whose revenues exceed costs. For Porter, the value is the amount hat buyers are willing to pay for what the company provides. A firm is profitable if the value that you get from your buyers exceeds the costs required to create the product. Creating products for buyers whose values exceeds the costs is the goal of any business strategy. To analyze the value a company is able to create for its buyers, Porter uses what he calls the value chain or succession of business where value arises. Hertz has developed a business performance management to get a competitive edge. This performance has four steps: 1. Decide on desired performance levels. What the company wants to achieve is to be the major enterprise in the ââ¬Å"rent a carâ⬠market. 2. Determine how to attain the performance levels. The company has to do different levels in the performance, a specific short-, medium-, and long-term plans. 3. Periodically assess where the organization stands whit respect to its goals, objectives, and measures. 4. Adjust performance and/or goals. In this market, Hertz can get a competitive edge by improving its services. When a company introduces something new in the market like Hertz, it can get a competitive edge until other companies make the same. In this case, Hertz is a ââ¬Å"first moverâ⬠to information technologies and this makes the company different from the others. Now, whit something new, Hertz can get a competitive edge. SUMMARISE To sum up we think that Hertz has advantages which makes them one of the popular rental companies because they give their best services to each costumer. It bases its function on new technologies and uses them to achieve their productivity. The company possesses a lot of values, which are mainly connected with integrity, transparency, continuous improvement that is related to diversity of services and products. It has passion that involves commitment and there are very important values in the company, as teamwork that has a lot in common with accountability. Hertz mission in majority contains all the points focused on customer rights, cost efficient vehicles and its service to capture every market theyââ¬â¢re occupied. They want to strengthen their worldwide position to a very large culture of employee and partnership. But there is more! It provides Frequent Traveler Credit and has a huge number of partners from airports, hotels, travel agencies, consumer loyalty to service partners. Hertz offers global opportunities to join its franchise network. The company leads Business to Business transactions, whereas both the sellers and the buyers are business organization. Business-to-business has about 85 percent of EC dollar volume. Thanks to this the company can cover applications that enable an enterprise to form electronic relationships with operators. For instance, some of the models for B2B application are sell-side marketplaces, buy-side marketplaces, and electronic exchanges. After World War I, the Allied powers seemed determined to preserve peace, but Germany and Japan held a shared goal of world domination. In two memorandums about the plans of Germany and Japan, U.S. officials make the position that the United States should take plain: mobilize and be ready for war, but do not provoke it. In other words, Speak softly but carry a big stick. Although Germany and Japan had a few similar goals and ideas, they differed on other issues of subject peoples and races. Both Germany and Japan had plans to rule the world. They began their conquests in the early- to mid-1930s, Japan with Manchuria in 1931 and Germany with the Rhineland in 1936. These occupations would eventually lead to WWII. Germany and Japan also wanted to control trade and have a political influence in the countries that surrounded them. For Germany, it was a matter of national pride. They wanted to show that Germany was still a great state after their humiliating defeat in WWI. The expansionists of Japan felt that Japans destiny is to subjugate and rule the world. There was no tinge of revenge to the The main difference between Germany and Japan was that the Japanese military had the power to defeat other countries without the permission of the government. The German government not only gave permission, they persuaded the German people to support their hunger for territory. Germany was intensely xenophobic. All peoples other than Aryans were persecuted. They intended to annihilate the Jews and breed out the Slavic people. The memorandum concerning Japan does not give evidence of xenophobia in Japan, but neither does it imply that the Japanese were Germany and Japan had many similarities in their foreign policies. As each company or country will have both advantages as well as risks regarding many aspects of its functioning, it is very important for the investors to have insight about those investment opportunities. As it will not be practically feasible for the investors to analyze and understand each and every aspect of the companies or countries and their advantages and risks, they will elicit the help of external agencies. Also, even if they do analysis on their own, they will consult or refer external agencies to give them some guidelines or ideas about the investment opportunities. To be in love with someone is often related to romance and relationships. Loving someone, on the other hand, is what one can say sustains a relationship after the infatuation fades away. At this point, one is fully aware of the other personââ¬â¢s flaws and the differences between them and still chooses to stay with them. To love someone is unconditional, like how a mother loves her child that makes her always defend the child no matter what or the general feeling we have for our family. You take the person you love for who they are and will always be there for them no matter what. The feeling of love is something that gradually grows as one gets to know the other person and accept them for whom they truly are. To love someone means that the feeling will never go away. Therefore, this impliesà that it is possible to be in love with someone and not love him or her. Alternatively, that you can love someone without necessarily saying you are in love with him or her. Like you can love your dog, but you cannot say that you are in love with your dog. I agree with this statement. In unconditionally self-loving oneââ¬â¢s self, one can feel like they truly deserve of the love they get in return from their partners, families or friends. If one were to sit and write down a list of things they want in their partner, you get to realize that it is all the characters you want in yourself. People try to be what they are not in order for other people to think that they are first before you can expect someone to fall in love with you (Collins, 2006). Self-love is all about falling in love with oneââ¬â¢s self first, before turning to someone else to share that love with instead of only looking for someone to fill the hole we have in our lives out of feeling unworthy and undeserving of love. Thus, it is imperative that automotive elec-trical power systems will obviously undergo a drastic change in the next 10ââ¬â20 years. Currently, the situation in the automotive in-dustry is such that the demands for higher fuel economy and more electric power are driving advanced vehicular power system volt-ages to higher levels. For example, the projected increase in total power demand is estimated to be about three to four times that of the current value. This means that the total future power de-mand of a typical advanced vehicle could roughly reach a value as high as 10 kW. In order to satisfy this huge vehicular load, the ap-proach is to integrate power electronics intensive solutions within advanced vehicular power systems. In view of this fact, this paper aims at reviewing the present situation as well as projected future research and development work of advanced vehicular electrical power systems including those of electric, hybrid electric, and fuel cell vehicles (EVs, HEVs, and FCVs). The paper will first introduce the proposed power system architectures for HEVs and FCVs and will then go on to exhaustively discuss the specific applications of dc/dc and dc/ac power electronic converters in advanced automo-tive power systems. Index Termsââ¬âElectric propulsion, electric vehicles (EVs), fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), internal com-bustion engines, motor drives, power converters, semiconductor devices. I. INTRODUCTION. BY THE time the commercialization of the next-generation car comes around, advanced power electronics and motor drives will have already established themselves as prime compo-nents of advanced vehicular drive trains. Advanced power elec-tronic converters and traction motor drives will be responsible for a major part of the vehicleââ¬â¢s energy usage. As of now, the automotive market is making rapid developments in case of the hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Commercially available HEVs include the Toyota Prius, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Lexus RX 400 h, Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Accord Hybrid, and Ford Escape Hybrid. In the case of future HEVs, power electronic converters and associated motor drives, which control the flow of electrical energy within the HEV power system, promise to be the keys to making HEVs more fuel efficient and emit lower harmful pollutants. The authors are with Electric Power and Power Electronics Center, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL 60616-3793 USA (e-mail: [emailprotected] edu). Digital Object Identifier 10. 1109/TPEL. 2006. 872378 As is well known, in the first half of the past century, the 6-V electrical system in automobiles served the purpose of ignition, cranking, and a satisfying few lighting loads [1]ââ¬â[5]. Since then, there has been a constant rise in vehicular power requirement. Performance loads, such as electric steering, that were tradition-ally driven by mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, are now increasingly being replaced by the electrically driven systems, in order to increase the performance and efficiency of operation. Furthermore, luxury loads have also increased over time, imposing a higher demand of electrical power [3]. It must be pointed out here that the rate of increase of automotive loads is assumed to be about 4% per year. Thus, such load demands have resulted in the need to scale up the onboard vehicular power level. Considering these aspects, several decades ago, the voltage was raised from its earlier 6-V level to the present day 12-V level and, now with an ever-in-creasing demand forecasted into the future, there is a need to switch over to much higher voltage levels of 42 V, 300 V, or higher, as the case may be [3]ââ¬â[5]. Due to the high voltage levels being produced in HEVs, it becomes essential to have dc/dc converters to supply all the auxiliary loads on board the vehicle. Although the dc/dc converter technology is well devel-oped for low-power applications at lower cost, much work needs to be done for high-power applications. It is an immense chal-lenge to meet all the vehicle standards for electromagnetic in-terference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) as well as specifications of reliability and packaging [4], [5]. In ad-dition, power electronic converters also dictate how and when fuel/electricity is used in HEVs. A suitable dc/ac inverter draws dc power from the batteries to drive the electric traction motor, which in turn provides power to the wheels. The dc/ac inverter also performs the function of recharging the batteries during re-generative braking in HEVs. Based on this fundamental background, proving the criticality of power electronics for HEV applications, this paper will re-view the role of power electronics and compare the associated advanced power system architectures for HEV as well as electric vehicle (EV) and fuel cell vehicle (FCV) applications. The var-ious design issues for power electronics intensive HEV and FCV power systems and the current and future trends will be high-lighted. In addition, the proposed 42-V PowerNet is also focused upon, emphasizing on the description of its key capabilities and requirements. Furthermore, the paper will also discuss the mild hybrid vehicle, wherein the major opportunities for automotive power electronics are outlined. Finally, few system-level issues 0885-8993/$20. 00 à © 2006 IEEE 568IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS, VOL. 21, NO. 3, MAY 2006 Fig. 1. Topological arrangement for an electric vehicle (EV) drive train. power system architectures for these advanced drive train arrangements. A. Battery Electric Vehicle (EV) Drive Train Topology A purely electric drive system principally replaces the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the various transmis-sion systems with an all-electric system. As is well known, rechargeable chemical batteries are the traditional option as en-ergy sources for EVs. But they tend to be heavy and expensive to replace over their limited lifetimes. In addition to traditional batteries like leadââ¬âacid, nickel metalââ¬âhydride (Niââ¬âMH), and nickelââ¬âcadmium (Niââ¬âCd), there are advanced technologies like lithiumââ¬âpolymer (Li-polymer) and lithiumââ¬âion (Liââ¬âion) bat-teries. Despite the popularity that these advanced batteries have gained for portable electronic applications, they havenââ¬â¢t quite maintained the same reputation for use in EVs. Most practical EVs still use lead-acid batteries, with the more sophisticated ones using Niââ¬âMH batteries [8], [9]. A basic overview of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) is as shown in Fig. 3. More recently, the automotive industry is cutting back on EV production, and has declared HEVs and FCVs to be the future of advanced vehicle technologies. This is because BEVs cost sig-nificantly more than gasoline vehicles, due to the fact that EV battery modules are currently being produced in very small vol-umes [9]ââ¬â[11]. Higher vehicle prices are partially offset by the fact that fuel costs for battery electrics are about one-third those of a gasoline-powered vehicle. In addition, BEVs have fewer moving parts than gasoline cars, and hence, require less mainte-nance. The future of battery EVs is somewhat uncertain at this time, but their development has already made important contri-butions to advancing electric drive train and storage technolo-gies needed by both HEVs as well as FCVs [10], [11]. If further breakthroughs in battery technologies occur, BEVs could yet prove to be the future of clean transportation. B. Series HEV Drive Train Topology A series hybrid vehicle is basically an electric vehicle with an on-board battery charger. An ICE is generally run at an optimal efficiency point to drive the generator and charge the propul-sion batteries on-board the vehicle, as shown in Fig. 4. When the state of charge (SOC) of the battery is at a predetermined minimum, the ICE is turned on to charge the battery [12]ââ¬â[15]. The ICE turns off again when the battery has reached a desir-able maximum SOC. The engine/generator set maintains the battery charge around 65%ââ¬â75%. It must be noted that, in a se- Fig. 4. Typical layout of a series HEV drive train. Fig. 5. Schematic of a parallel HEV drive train configuration. ries HEV, there is no mechanical connection between the ICE and the chassis. The advantage with the series HEV configuration is that the ICE is running mostly at its optimal combination of speed and torque, thereby, having a low fuel consumption and high effi-ciency. However, there are two energy conversion stages during the transformation of the energy between the ICE and the wheels (ICE/generator and generator/motor) [16], [17]. Some energy is lost because of the two-stage power conversion process. A se-ries hybrid vehicle is more applicable in city driving. C. Parallel HEV Drive Train Topology A hybrid vehicle with the parallel configuration has both the ICE and the traction motor mechanically connected to the trans-mission. A schematic figure of the parallel hybrid is shown in Fig. 5. The vehicle can be driven with the ICE, or the electric motor, or both at the same time and, therefore, it is possible to choose the combination freely to feed the required amount of torque at any given time [18]ââ¬â[20]. In parallel HEV, there are many ways to configure the use of the ICE and the traction motor. The most widely used strategy is to use the motor alone at low speeds, since it is more efficient than the ICE, and then let the ICE work alone at higher speeds. When only the ICE is in use, the traction motor can function as a generator and charge the battery. A parallel HEV can also have a continuously variable transmission (CVT) instead of a fixed step transmission [19], [20]. With this technique, it is pos-sible to choose the most efficient operating points for the ICE 570IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS, VOL. 21, NO. 3, MAY 2006 Fig. 6. Typical drive train configuration of a series-parallel combined HEV. Fig. 7. Schematic of a complex HEV drive train. at given torque demands freely and continuously. The result is lower fuel consumption due to the inherently more efficient fuel usage. Energy is also saved due to regenerative braking. The advantage with the parallel HEV configuration is that there are fewer energy conversion stages compared to the se-ries HEV and, therefore, a lesser part of the energy is lost [19]. In fact, the parallel HEV drive train depicts fairly lower losses compared to other HEV topologies and, hence, has a compara-tively higher overall drive train efficiency. D. Series-Parallel HEV Drive Train Topology The series-parallel HEV is a combination of the series and parallel hybrids. There is an additional mechanical link between the generator and the electric motor, compared to the series con-figuration, and an additional generator compared to the parallel hybrid, as shown in Fig. 6. With this design, it is possible to com-bine the advantages of both the series and parallel HEV config-urations [20]. It must be highlighted here that the series-parallel HEV is also relatively more complicated and expensive. There are many possible combinations of the ICE and traction motor. Two major classifications can be identified as electric-in-tensive and engine-intensive. The electric-intensive series-par-allel HEV configuration indicates that the electric motor is more active than the ICE for propulsion, whereas, in the engine-inten-sive case, the ICE is more active [20], [21]. A common opera-tive characteristic for both types of series-parallel HEV systems is that the electric motor is used alone at start with ICE turned off. During normal driving, the ICE alone propels the vehicle in the engine-intensive case. On the other hand, the ICE and electric motor propel the vehicle in the electric-intensive case [20]. When acceleration is needed, the electric traction motor is used in combination with the ICE to give extra power in both of the configurations. During braking or deceleration, the trac-tion motor is used as a generator to charge the battery and, in stand still, the ICE can continue to run and drive the generator to charge the battery, if needed. Another form of series-hybrid configuration is shown in Fig. 7, which is a power split HEV topology. This topology includes a planetary gearbox, which connects the ICE, traction motor, and generator. Varying the speed from the two planetary gear pinions, connected to the electric motor and the generator, can control the ICE speed. When the ICE turns off, the vehicle is propelled in the pure electric mode. However, at most of the operating points, the energy flows in a similar fashion to either that of a parallel HEV or to that of a series HEV. In parallel HEV mode, energy flows from ICE via the gearbox to the wheels, whereas, in the series HEV mode of operation, the energy flows from generator and motor to the wheels [21]. The proportion between these two energy flows depends on the overall vehicle speed. Under most operating conditions, this configuration is a combination of series and parallel hybrid vehicle. It is also possible to operate this in parallel mode for some operating conditions. One of the motivating factors for use of the power split HEV topology is to increase the vehicle power capability for a given transmission. This in turn enables the usage of continuously variable transmission concept for light duty HEV propulsion ap-plications, such as pick up trucks and small buses. E. FCV Drive Train Topology. The potential for superior efficiency and zero (or near zero) emissions has long attracted interest to fuel cells as the potential automotive engine of the future. However, systematic efforts to realize the efficiency and emissions benefits of fuel cells in the transportation sector have materialized only in the last 10 years. The overall goal of ongoing fuel cell research and development programs is to develop a fuel cell engine that will give vehicles the range of conventional cars, while attaining environmental benefits comparable to those of battery-powered electric vehi-cles. Although the technology is currently quite expensive, fuel cells offer benefits including high overall efficiency and quiet operation due to few moving parts. A typical fuel cell based propulsion system is shown in Fig. 8. The hydrocarbon fuel such as gasoline, natural gas, methanol, or ethanol is first reformed to obtain the required hydrogen using a reformer (or fuel processor) [22]. This hydrogen rich gas from the reformer is fed to the anode of the fuel cell. It is also possible to store the on-board the vehicle using a pressurized cylinder, instead of using the reformer for con-verting the fuel to -rich gas. The oxygen (or air) is fed in to the cathode fuel cell. Depending on the fuel cell stack configu-ration, and the flow of hydrogen and oxygen, the fuel cell stack produces the dc output voltage [22], [23]. The fuel cell stack EMADI et al. : POWER ELECTRONICS INTENSIVE SOLUTIONS| 571| Fig. 8. Typical topological arrangement of a hybrid fuel cell vehicle drive train. output is fed to the power conditioner (power electronic con-verter) to obtain the required output voltage and current. Ide-ally, the power conditioner must have minimal losses leading to a higher efficiency. Power conditioning efficiencies can typ-ically be higher than 90% [24]. IV. POWER ELECTRONICS INTENSIVE POWER SYSTEM ARCHITECTURES FOR HEVS A. Advanced Electrical Features in Future HEV Technologies As mentioned earlier, there is a trend in the automotive in-dustry to replace more engine driven mechanical and hydraulic loads with electrical loads, due to higher efficiency, safety re-quirements, and driverââ¬â¢s comfort. All of these new functions re-quire the application of power electronics. In most of the cases, the cost of the power electronics dominates the argument of in-troducing such functions. Many of these functions will only ap-pear in concept vehicles in the projected future. Some of these include luxury loads, such as information and entertainment that have received lots of hype recently. The other class of features is -by wire, where ââ¬Å"â⬠stands for an advanced function such as, ââ¬Å"steerâ⬠or ââ¬Å"brake. â⬠Another class of advanced electrical features includes power steering pump, electric ac-tive suspension system, electromechanical valve control, elec-trically heated catalytic converter, air-conditioning systems, and water/oil/fuel pumps [25]. There are also other loads such as throttle actuation, ride-height adjustment, rear-wheel steering, which are proposed to be driven electrically in the future. Fig. 9 depicts a summary of some of the future electrical features auto-motive power systems. It is virtually mandatory that most of the proposed future electric loads will indeed require power elec-tronic controls of some sort. B. Advanced HEV Topology Using ISA System In view of research and development work for MEVs, it must be pointed out that one of the leading breakthroughs in the au-tomotive industry is the introduction of the integrated starter-generator (ISG) system for mild HEVs [26]. The ISG is pri-marily an electric machine with a rotor instead of a flywheel mounted on the crankshaft between the ICE and transmission. A schematic diagram of an ISG system used in conjunction with a high-voltage vehicular power system is shown in Fig. 10. The Fig. 9. Future electrical features in more electric vehicle power systems. Fig. 10. Integrated starter-alternator (ISA) based HEV drive train. ISG provides the functions of an electric starter and an alternator [26], [27]. By using suitable advanced power electronic con-verter systems, it is possible for the ISG to compensate the drive train oscillations to provide more comfort. The power electronic converter system controls the ISG operating state, depending on the load status and the battery charge status. Improved fuel economy and reduced emissions are two prime advantages of an ISG system. Using a start/stop cycle, the ICE is turned off during deceleration or after the vehicle comes to a complete stop. The ISG can be used to propel the vehicle from a stop condition (and/or at a set speed), to restart the ICE. The ISG will also be able to route power produced by regenerative braking into the energy storage devices (batteries or ultra-capac-itors) [26], [27]. It can also be used to provide power enhance-ment, when taking off from a stop, or in added acceleration for passing. C. 42-V/12-V Dual-Voltage Vehicular Electrical Systems The 42-V/12-V dual-voltage architecture is being popularly touted as one of the solutions for the ever-increasing in-vehicle load demand. The operating voltage criteria being considered for 42-V systems are shown in Fig. 11. The maximum dynamic over voltage is limited to 58 V, including the transient voltages 572IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS, VOL. 21, NO. 3, MAY 2006 Fig. 11. Typical operating voltage criteria for 42-V HEV power systems. Fig. 13. Schematic of a dual voltage (14 V and 42 V) architecture using one battery. Fig. 12. Schematic of a dual voltage (14 V and 42 V) architecture using two batteries. [28]. In this case, the system charging voltage is set at 42 V. The entire electrical system in the vehicle is run at a nominal value of 42 V, whenever the engine is running. Some of the advantages of such a system include, high efficiency and performance, less expensive operational procedures, reduced total installed power due to the integration of the mechanical and hydraulic power into the electrical power system, and reduction in the overall design complexity. The transition to an entirely 42-V dominated architecture cannot be done immediately. Therefore, it is assumed that a dual voltage automotive power system will exist at least for a while. There are various ways to implement a power electronics intensive dual voltage power system. The schematic used in Fig. 12 illustrates a dual (42 Vââ¬â14 V) battery system. Fig. 13 shows a schematic using only one single 42-V battery, and Fig. 14 illustrates a structure in which the dual voltage is generated by a single alternator, which has two output voltages. In the dual battery system, the first (36-V) battery is optimized for high power delivery, while the second (12-V) battery is optimized for low powers to support key-off loads plus hazard lamp operation [28], [29]. In other words, in this structure, the starting function will be isolated from the storage function required for ââ¬Å"key-offâ⬠loads. This architecture provides oppor-tunities to improve existing high power loads by moving them to the 42-V side. It also minimizes changes to existing 14-V features, like lighting loads. However, this system has two batteries, which when com-pared with todayââ¬â¢s one 14-V battery, implies more cost, weight, and packaging space. The other new component in this system is Fig. 14. Schematic of a dual stator dual voltage (14 V and 42 V) architecture using two batteries. the 42-V/14-V dc/dc converter. The overall cost of power elec-tronics is still considered too high for automotive applications. However, power electronic converters are capable of providing seamless energy transfer between two energy storage batteries and help improve reliability of some critical vehicular functions, which require a backup battery. In contrast, the single battery schematic of Fig. 13 is based on the desire to avoid cost, weight, and packaging problems cre-ated by the additional battery. The idea is that the power man-agement system should be smart enough to manage the key-off loads from depleting the high-voltage battery to the point that the vehicle cannot be started [29]. It is critical to point out here that this architecture also uses a bidirectional dc/dc converter be-tween the 42-V and 14-V buses. The schematic shown in Fig. 14 uses a more complicated alternator, with two sets of stator wind-ings, to provide power separately to the 42-V and 14-V buses. In this structure, again, high power loads are connected to the 42-V bus and the 14-V bus supplies low-power electrical mod-ules [29]. In addition to the above-described architectures, there exist many other strategies and variations of dual-voltage automo-tive power systems. The auto industry at this point is stagnant with regards to selecting appropriate dual-voltage MEV archi-tectures. One of the main focal points of research in selecting EMADI et al. : POWER ELECTRONICS INTENSIVE SOLUTIONS a suitable MEV system is to determine which options provide the best economic value to possible customers. The other major concerns with the introduction of 42-V power systems are phys-ical and practical viability aspects, such as arc faults and ensuing fire hazards. These and various other practical issues are dis-cussed in the following section. 1) Practical Issues Related to 42-V Automotive Power Sys-tems: As is apparent, by increasing the present 14-V network to 42-V, significant component and system changes within the vehicle will be necessitated. One of the major motives for this change is because of the nature of faults and their subsequent consequences, due to the higher current carrying wires in a 42-V automotive power system environment. It is obvious that the ten-dency is to produce longer arc faults, which have to be addressed to provide automotive safety. Wires that are semi-cut or scraped, in all probability, cause longer arc faults at higher system volt-ages. Furthermore, various research issues also arise from the point of view of vehicular power electronics and motor drives. For example, by reducing the mild HEV power system operating voltage (from 150 V/300 V to 42 V), the required current to pro-vide the necessary power increases. Thus, this corresponds to the entire winding of the electric traction machine to be restruc-tured. Issues such as heat transfer and protection also require a detailed investigation before the 42-V architecture becomes practicable in the auto industry. On the other hand, power electronic switches in 42-V sys-tems may be required to handle RMS currents in the proximity of about 400 to 500 amps/phase [29]. Currently, in order to switch such high profile currents, parallel-operated power electronic switches are being proposed, since using single-level switches is highly uneconomical. Recently, advanced MOSFET switches have been introduced for use with prototype 42-V automotive power systems. Trench IGBTs have also made noteworthy progress from the point of view of providing 42-V architectural solutions, wherein the research focus is mainly on solving reliability and short-circuit current capability issues. D. Power Electronics Solutions for HEVs Power electronics is an enabling technology for next genera-tion of vehicles, which should be cleaner, smarter, more precise, more efficient, and more flexible. In the past decades, power electronic devices were avoided mainly because of their cost issues. The reasons for increased interest in automotive power electronics can be separated into the ensuing sections. 1) New Architectures: By increasing new electrical loads, cost and complexity of the system is on the increase. Such archi-tectures need new switching and reliability features. Power elec-tronics makes the possibility of integrating switching and fusing functions into one component with higher reliability. Possibility of implementing different control methods on power electronic systems is another reason to go away from relay switching. Also, by implementing integrated sensing techniques in power elec-tronic devices, diagnosis and fault detection becomes easier to implement. Furthermore, development of clean and energy effi-cient vehicles in future vehicle technologies such as EVs, HEVs, 573 and FCVs is not possible without implementing new architec-tures, which are available using power electronics. 2) Power Conversion on Demand: Most of the auxiliary drives in vehicles are designed for worst-case scenarios. Power electronics and motor drive topologies make it easier to have higher efficiency by providing adjustable speed drives. Es-pecially, engine-cooling fans have been designed recently, implementing power electronic controls and adjustable speed drives. 3) Voltage Conversion on Demand: Different components in vehicles need different levels of voltages. Different voltage levels in dual-voltage architecture are available using power electronic converters. Induction or synchronous machines need ac voltages with high power for propulsion, and small motors for fans and pumps require ac voltage with low power [30], [31]. Converting dc-to-ac voltages and dc-to-dc voltages with different voltage levels is not possible without using power elec-tronic converters. 4) Precise Electronic Control: Engine controls such as igni-tion or fuel injection need precise timing and dynamic control of actuators. Fuel injectors should work on very high pressure with more precise opening time. Engine developers are working on systems to replace the camshaft with electronically controlled variable valves, promising up to 25% more fuel economy. These controls cannot be imagined without the use of power elec-tronics. 5. Who is to say that there can only be one explanation or meaning to Dickinson's #315? Since being introduced to this poem, I have heard many different interpretations either from others in my group or from reading about it in web sites or books. In this close reading, I will concentrate on the very first word of this text: He. I will explain who I think this person is and how "He" is responsible for the actions in this poem. In my view, I think the one doing the action in this poem or, "He," is some form of deity. Whether it is God or just a god is beyond my comprehension. I think the only one who knows that answer is Emily Dickinson herself. At first thought, however, I envisioned a supreme Zeus-like god playing the song that is our lives like a musical instrument. We travel through life's trials and tribulations, provided by this being, and we ultimately die at the hand of him. The first line not only introduces this character but explains that his hands are guiding our souls. The mental image I received from the word "fumbles" (line 1) is a simple one. I thought of someone throwing bits of mozzarella cheese on top of a pizza getting ready to be cooked! This can be symbolic of our supreme being throwing at us the events of our lives as it fumbles through his hands with no concern or compassion as to where it falls. The next line verifies this image. "As Players at the Keys" (line 2) is symbolic of a pianist playing the song that is our life. However, the plural usage of "player" might suggest more than one god is in control of our existence. Like a song with its peaks and valleys (representing our life) the pianist's ("He," or, the gods) fingers strike at the "keys" with varying tempo's and force. This also ties in to lines three and four. "Before they drop the full music on - He stuns you by degrees-" At this point I feel Dickinson is trying to tell us that those who are in control of our soul are not in our favor. Initially, I came into your class ecstatic because I knew the journey I would embark would be an exciting one; however, I encountered challenges throughout the course although learning new psychological methods is enthusing to me. I learned about the origin of psychology and the evolution of modern psychology. In further detail, I will discuss how the learning goals of this course have influenced my career and personal life. When I began college, I was undecided about what to study. Initially, I enrolled as Biology major. I majored in biology for three years of my college career. Because I was not happy or even satisfied, I decided to pursue studying a subject that genuinely grasped my interest. I knew in my heart that whatever I was searching for had to be something I would love doing for the rest of my life or at least most of it. Therefore, I went on an exploration to find that one particular area of study that would be of great significance to me and my future endeavors. I came across Psychology. I didnââ¬â¢t know much about it. All I knew was that I took it during my freshman year because it was a requirement to take Psychology 101. The entire time while I was reminiscing about this class, all I could remember was the professor lecturing about the human mind and why people do what they do. I found it to be sort of interesting and I said, ââ¬Å"Hey, why not give it a try?â⬠Previously, I had skeptic views. I contemplated about making this big change because I thought there was nothing else left for me to do but toâ⬠¦ ââ¬Å"Just do it!â⬠Because I am new to everything that is going on around me within my Psychology courses, there is plenty that I wish to obtain and learn: not just from my professors but also from my peers. One class that I have taken is History and Systems of Psychology, and it is one of my most interesting Psychology courses here at the University. This course is very different from many classes that I have taken. There are seminars, blogs, essays, Greeks, and much more that surround this course. The seminars consist of in class discussions where we converse about different readings and how we feel about what was read, as well as what the writer was trying to convey to his or her audience. Sometimes the discussions can become intense but it is stimulating. I am not much of a public speaker, but the seminars are beneficial to me conquering my phobia of speaking in front of a crowd of people. The course is informative but surprisingly it isnââ¬â¢t boring. I perceive as motivation to do well through the learning goals that are set out before us by the professor. Contrary, to my previous study of Psychology, I have learned a vast amount of information from being in this course. Yes, History and Systems of Psychology will inform and teach me about the ancient Greeks and their attributes towards the development of Psychology but I will also learn skills that will definitely be beneficial in my career as a Speech Pathologist. A Speech Pathologist evaluates and diagnosis speech, language, cognitive- communication and swallowing disorders. They also treat speech, language, cognitive- communication and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages, from infants to the elderly. The class is not only lecturing, but also growth for future purposes. My fellow classmates and I will be able to network with one another on a more intellectual level. We are all able to discuss our opinions about different topics through seminars. This is a way to help better our communication and listening skills. Patience is gained when waiting for others to speak, even though you may be eager to express your views on a particular situation. It helps us to be more open-minded to othersââ¬â¢ opinions which provide us with the opportunity to learn from one another and just the professor. Because it is proven that the focus of psychological studies in modern society may not reflect its colorful and amusing history, its roots however fluctuate from the modern philosophies of the field. In order to totally comprehend psychology, one must first go back into its history and explore its origins. A question that I asked myself and became informed of throughout the course of this semester is: ââ¬Å"How did the studies of Psychology originate? What period was Psychology created?â⬠Because I was able to question myself, I became more involved and interesting not only in Psychology 445, but the overall studies of Psychology. As I answered these questions, I realized that Psychology involves a massive range of topics; alongside, examining the humanââ¬â¢s developmental patterns and mental practices from cultural level to neural level. Interestingly, I learned that Speech Pathologists study the same materials as Psychologists. For example, both patricians must know matters pertaining to human mental concerns. These issues can begin right from delivery and endure up until the death of the person. Through the knowledge developed in Psychology 445, I will be able to better comprehend how the individual topics are studied and what has been taught thus far. One of my most beloved and studied psychologist has been Sigmund Freud (Freud). Independently, I studied Freud; the famous Austrian physician transformed the entire face of psychology in such an intense way by creating a theory of personality that strained on the significance of the unconscious mind. Freudââ¬â¢s involvement with clients anguish from mental ailments like hysteria directed him to consider that oneââ¬â¢s early childhood encounters as well as our unconscious impulses contribute greatly towards the development of our adult lifestyle behavior and characteristics. You may ask yourself: ââ¬Å"Why is this information important to?â⬠As stated in our learning goals there are many historical psychologists who can give an account for the evolution of modern psychology. It is important for me to understand the history and previous studies because past determinations will enable me to diagnose my clients when I work as a speech pathologist. There are commonalties between psychologist and speech pathologist. Because of these similarities, I have encountered psychological skills that I plan to utilize as a speech pathologist. Interestingly, Psychology continues to evolve! Currently, majority practices do not identify themselves with a distinct school of thought. Instead, workers prefer focusing on certain specialty ranges or perspectives, often creating conclusions from a wide range of theoretical experiences. This methodology has contributed new theories and ideas that still carry on to shape the future of psychology. In conclusion, I learned quality listening and observance skills. In order for me to be a good Speech Pathologist, I must be able to listen and communicate with the patients. I must be patient, stable, tolerant of others, confident, and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Surprisingly, in class being emotionally stable really is a great trait to have and learn. Because everyone does not have identical in personalities and background life experiences, everyone may not think alike. In most cases, when there is a discussion and there are many different thoughts and opinions being tossed in the air, some individuals tend to become a little upset because they may feel that what they believe is correct. However, when engaging in conversation with others who may have different point of views, there is no right or wrong. Therefore, having emotional stability is important. I believe that this change which I have made is for the best. I feel that with every moment I attend class, I am discovering something new and opening myself up to bigger and brighter opportunities. Adult cystic acne is, unfortunately, one of the worst possible forms of acne. Once thought to be a phenomenon prevalent exclusively among children and adolescents, cystic acne is fast becoming a more and more frequent affliction experienced by adults. The only difference between cystic acne and adult cystic acne, therefore, is the age of the sufferer. Cystic acne is characterized by large bumps, lesions and severe redness and inflammation in the affected area. Cystic acne bumps are actual cysts, which can be described as infected, oily, pus and bacteria-filled mounds that form just under the skin. It can take over different parts of your body, such as your back and shoulders, but, as with most acne, the face is the most common site of the problem. It can be quite painful, disfiguring and lead to permanent scarring, which can cause a deep plunge in your self-esteem. What causes it? There are several factors that contribute to the onset of cystic acne in adults. The immediate cause is an overproduction of oil, usually brought on by the hormone imbalance or overactive glands, which leads to clogged pores. This interferes with the skinââ¬â¢s normal renewal process, rendering it unable to properly dispose of dead skin cells. This can result in serious bacterial infections that are a precursor to cystic acne. Although the problem is largely out of your hands, it can be exacerbated by external factors, such as: â⬠¢ Heavy use of lotions and beauty creamsShow MoreRelatedExplain the Potential Effects of Five Different Life Factors on the Development of an Individual1779 Words à |à 8 Pageswould have looked pale, grey and tired especially a few days after consuming the alcohol. The reason for this is that online general education colleges have led the way in adapting academic pursuits to career orientation. For example, you can attend a traditional school and spend two or three years obtaining a masters in business administration (MBA). Not so long ago, the degree alone was enough to elicit many job interviews, but with a masters in a more specialized area, the opportunities for job interviews rise. Today, you can pursue an online MBA at the University of Phoenix with the choice of seven areas of specialization, ranging from global management to technology management. Or, you can attend one of their campuses in thirteen states. That is an excellent example of an academic institution adjustingà to a rapidly changing employment marketplace. Many online institutions offer general education classes for general degrees that simply dont appear in course catalogues for traditional schools. However, those degrees do provide significance to the employment marketplace. Another example is Capella University, which has a Masters of Science in Human Services. GMO stands for genetically modified organism. According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, this means an organism containing genetic material that has been artificially altered so as to produce a desired characteristic. Generally, genetic modification happens one of two ways. First, picks the organism with desired traits and breeds it to another with the same traits, making the desired traits more dominate. Second, using a microscope and other technology to cut and paste in the organismââ¬â¢s genome sequence. ââ¬Å"Most commonly, scientists modify plants to make them resistant to herbicides, to speed growing time, or to enable them toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It just happened. Many scientists contributed to the foundation of GMO technology. Philosopher Aristotle, one of the first recorded to construct a theory of traits pass down generation to generation, he called this p angenesis. More than 2000 years later, Charles Darwin, theorized desirable traits, helping an organism to survive will adapt and pass down. During this time, in the mid 19th century, other scientist went to work. The famous Gregory Mendel, a botanist and an Austrian monk, conducted the famous pea plant experiment. Through this experiment, he found that certain traits inherited following specific patterns. However, none of the geneticistsââ¬â¢ work was used until the 20th century. In 1926, Henry Wallace established the Hi-Bred Corn Company. Today, hybridization, also known selective breeding, creates better crops. The first successful gene splice, completed more than 70 years ago, led the way into genetic engineering. Genetic engineering is another term for genetic modification, describing the use of a microscope and other technology to cut and paste in the organismââ¬â¢s genome sequence. This technology is being utilized every day to modify crops and animals. November 19, 20 15, the FDA approved the AquAdvantage salmon. These beliefs can be stronger than knowledge in determining how teachers will behave in the classroom, since these beliefs are rooted in our culture; they start to form early in life, and they are resistant to change (Williams and Burden, 1997). Proposed research problem The beliefs of EFL teachers about the use of L1 in the teaching of English as a foreign language to teenage learners in public educational institutions. We will write a custom essay sample on Implication of Research on Teacher Belief or any similar topic only for you Order Now Research statement Undoubtedly, beliefs are an important issue in every area that is related to human behavior and learning (Ajzen, 1988). To Xu (2012), this is so because beliefs are involved in helping individuals make sense of the world, influencing how new information is perceived, and whether it is accepted or rejected. In addition, beliefs color memories with their evaluation and judgment, and serve to frame our understanding of events. For their part, McLeod and McLeod (2002) state that beliefs help people make sense of the world around them, which means that what people understand and know is defined and affected by means of what they believe is true, necessary, desirable, or recommendable. When it comes to teachersââ¬â¢ beliefs, different authors claim that they have a greater effect than the teachersââ¬â¢ knowledge on planning their lessons, on the types of decisions they adopt, and on classroom practice. Not only do teachersââ¬â¢ beliefs play a key role in teachersââ¬â¢ classroom practices and their professional development, but also they influence teachersââ¬â¢ real behaviors towards their learners (Clark Peterson, 1986; Pajares, 1992; Li, 2012). Similarly, Kuzborska (2011) maintains that teachers make decisions about their classroom teaching regarding beliefs they have about language teaching and learning. She emphasizes that teachersââ¬â¢ beliefs have a great impact on their aims, procedures, their roles, and their learners. For their part, Phipps and Borg (2009) state that teachersââ¬â¢ beliefs about teaching and learning are affected by their own experiences as learners and act as filters through which they explain new information, take teaching decisions, plan instructional practices, and define what and how they teach. On the other hand, the role of the studentsââ¬â¢ first language (L1) and its influence on the target language (TL) has long been a controversy. To some authors, the TL should be the only medium of communication, because the foreign language is best learned and taught through the language itself. For them, the avoidance of the L1 would maximize the effectiveness of learning the TL because maximum exposure to TL guarantees greater levels of acquisition and command. Additionally, they claim that the use of MT may obstruct the learning of LT due to language interference (Cook, 2001; Richards and Rodgers, 2001). Other authors, however, claim that the use of L1 can be helpful in most classroom activities, such as learning new vocabulary items, explaining complex ideas, studying grammatical rules, or studying cultural elements. Moreover, a judicious and wellââ¬âplanned use of the studentsââ¬â¢ L1 can give positive results in reducing anxiety, demotivation, and identity alienation. In fact, most EFL teachers and students often resort to L1 during the learning and teaching process. Consequently, it is important to study and understand what teachers believe about the use of L1, how they use it and to what extent it can become a teaching resource in the EFL classroom. Problem formulation In virtue of the above, the present research proposal seeks the recognition of the beliefs of teachers about the use of the first language (L1) in the teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL) in public educational institutions; concretely, it attempts to understand the basic nature of those beliefs. Consequently, this proposal aims at answering the following research questions: Primary research question What do teachers believe about the use of L1 in the teaching of English as a foreign language to teenage learners in public educational institutions? Secondary research questions What types of beliefs do teachers have about the use of L1 in the teaching of EFL to teenage learners in public educational institutions? What characteristics do teachersââ¬â¢ beliefs about the use of L1have in terms of nature and purpose? In regards to the previous research questions, the proposal aims at achieving the following objectives: General objective Identify the beliefs that teachers have about the use of L1 in the teaching of English as a foreign language to teenage learners in public educational institutions. Specific objectives Recognize the types of beliefs that teachers have about the use of l1 in the teaching of EFL to teenage learners in public educational institutions. Characterize teachersââ¬â¢ beliefs about the use of L1 in terms of nature and purpose. Answer: Introduction: Ancient Greekword ethikos gave rise to the word Ethics. the word ethosgave rise to the work Ethikos and ethos means habit or custom(Goetsch Davis, 2014). Axiology is a branch of philosophy named Axiology includes the further branches of ethic sas well as aesthetics, all of which is concerned with values(Crane Matten, 2016). It is difficult to define precisely the word ethics, but for the purpose of understanding we can say that, it is the code of moral values and principles that is responsible for governing behaviors of a person or a group of people taking into account of right and wrong(Myers, 2013). Ethical principles endow with the fundamentals for an assortment of modern concepts for business, work and organizations, which expand the individual and corporate priorities further than conventional business aims of profit and shareholder improvement. Ethical factors are also a considerable influence on public sector organizations and institutions, for which the conventional priorities of service excellence and cost management must now progressively more take under consideration of these same ethical issues affecting the business and corporate world. When the actions of a person either cause befit or may harm others then only ethical dilemma arises.(Weiss, 2014). Most ethical dilemmas involve the conflict between what is needed to be done and what is the right thing to do. Modern principles or sets of morals that administrate deeds and manners of an entity in the business institute is now regarded as Business ethics(Griffin, 2013). Bothnormativeand descriptive approaches are included in business ethics. The field is principally normative when corporate practice and a career specialization is concerned. in order to encompass descriptive methods several theorists is now trying to comprehend the moral principles of business(Wotruba, Chonko, Loe, 2015). There have been many business organizations that have encountered ethical dilemmas in the past. For the past two years, we have witnessed many scandals that questioned the integrity and business ethics of those organizations(Valentine, Fleischman, Godkin, 2015). One such scandal was on 2015 related to the famous German car brand Volkswagen. Emissionsgate or diselgate is the scandal that erupted in 18th September 2015 when Volkswagen cheated in emissions test. After Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) discovered that Volkswagen (VW) cheated in the emissions testing as they had intentionally plannedturbocharged direct injection(TDI)diesel to regulate specificemissionscontrols only for the duration of laboratoryemissions examinations; German automakerVolkswagen Group were delivered with a legal notice of infringement of the Clean Air Actfrom of United States(Krall Peng, 2015). The vehicles'NOx output was able to meet US standards during regulatory testing due to the program but in re al-world driving the cars discharge up to 40 times more NOx. The defeat device of Volkswagen is not a hardware machine but a software-generated program in the engine that enables the car to detect test conditions and only then activates all the pollution regulatory stops(Blackwelder, Coleman, Colunga-Santoyo, Harrison, Wozniak, 2016). Exhaust flow technique as well as air-fuel ration calculations enable clean diesel engines to reduce emissions. However, in some cases injecting a urea-based solution to render NOx harmless was also used though not in most Volkswagen cars(Krall Peng, 2015). The question is how the car sensed whether it is being tested or not? In majority of the test conditions the cars are adjusted in such a way that first they run at a particular speep for a limited period of time then the speed changes and again the car runs at that speed for a certain time. The central computer of the car can detect whether the inputs match those expected in test conditions(Blackw elder, Coleman, Colunga-Santoyo, Harrison, Wozniak, 2016). The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is an NGO who performed did independent on-road particle emissions tests, on the Volkswagen Jetta, the Volkswagen Passat and a BMW X5. The similar routhes that are followed by the EPA simulations are rural up/downhill, suburban, urban and highway driving which the ICCT followed during their exams. The results of the Volkswagen cars were much worse than the BMWs results were(Burki, 2015). Compelled by such results the ICCT ran tests on a dynamometer. However, in these tests, the cars qualified with excellence. At that point, the ICCT contacted the EPA. This led to further investigations. The California Air Resources Board investigated Volkswagen in May 2014. Scientists of West Virginia University conducted the investigation. They performed emission tests from two Volkswagen models outfitted with the diesel engine turbocharged with four NOx cylinders. Results showed tha t during road tests, few cars discharged almost40 timesmore than the acceptable levels of nitrous oxide. Afterwards, Volkswagen became the object of regulatory investigations in multiple countriesand immediately after the news, the stock price of Volkswagen were knocked down by a third within a few days. As a result,Martin Winterkorn who is the CEO of Volkswagen groupgave resignation from his post. The company also suspended the brand development head of the company Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Porsche research and development head Wolfgang Hatz and Audi research and development head Ulrich Hackenber (Ewing, 2015). As a compensatory plan, Volkswagen announced that they will spend7.3 billion U.S dollars on repairing the emissions problems. However, later the amount increased to 18.32 billion $. Later on, they also gave plans of renovation for the affected vehicles. German prosecutors gave statement that,Mr. Winterkorn was under investigationfor exploitation because he had waited longer than needed to release that the company was facing an inquiry over the scandal of emission gate. On 19th July 2015,a public complaint was filed against chief executive; Matthias Mller on behalf of the New York attorney generalconnected(Crte, 2016). This scandal had reached the top level of Volkswagen management. This incident raised consciousness towards the increasing pollution levels caused by all vehicles. A joint study by ICCT andADACshowed the largest deviations from Volvo, Citron, Hyundai, Renault, Jeep and Fiatbecause of which, the diesel market fell considerably(Krall Peng, 2015). The high-level management personals faced huge legal and ethical issues due to this scandal. This incident broke many ethics and business rules. If we take this incident as an example to discuss upon the theories of managerial issue previously elaborated, we will find that this incident broke at least two of the four prime ethical theories of management. If we criticize this scandal from utilitarian approach then we will see that it was morally incorrect for the governing body of the company to cheat on particle emission tests. It violated many environmental treaties among countries. It contributed into causing major environmental pollution for which health issues can be generated. Environmental protection acts exists to serve not only an individuals needs but to protect the nature from harm. Moreover, the CEO of VW avoided the press release of the scandal in order to protect the integrity of the company leading to causing ignorance of the buyers. It broke consumers trust on the comp any and involved them into the crime they are committing towards government of several countries. This also raises questions regarding the morality of the managerial body. It was an unethical corporate action and cannot be attributed solely to a single manager. From the point of view of moral right approach, this scandal jeopardized the moral rights of the stakeholders. People who invested in the shares of the company suffered huge loss without knowing the reality of the situation. They broke buyers trust. From the stakeholders point of view it broke their right to free counsel, right of freedom of conscience as well as their right of life and safety. Apart from these two, this incident also violated the justice theory. As the company broke many rules and committed serious crimes by cheating in the fundamental tests run on vehicles in order for them to acquire permission to launch these vehicles. There are many ways of approaching an ethical dilemma and one strategy that is based on norms and values may be a good way. Among many approaches that are included in the normative approach, four approaches are relevant to managers for dealing with an ethical dilemma(Ford Richardson, 2013). The utilitarian approach or rule based theory dates back to eighteenth century and was first formulated by Jeremy Bentham. Later on John Stuart Mill redefined it(Nahavandi, 2016). The theory reflects upon the consequences of any action on the stakeholders. This theory avoids self-interest and considers interests of all persons affected by an action impartially. Parties who are affected by the result of any actions are stakeholders. This theory implemented when benefits needed to be maximized and overall harm is to be minimized for all the stakeholders. Utilitarian theory recognizes that trade-off is present during decision-making. It includes cost-benefit analysis while taking any decision(Guiso, Sapienza, Zingales, 2015). The individualism theory states that, when any act promotes the individuals best long-term interests at that instance, that particular act is considered moral(Pullen Rhodes, 2015). A decisions goodness is calculated in order to determine the best long-term advantage to them. In theory, the greater good is achieved when people learn to help each other for their best personal interest. It is believed that individualism ultimately leads to integrity and honesty because in the end that results in best output. Therefore, this theory ultimately urges people to behave as such they want to receive from others. An important consideration towards this approach is that this theory projects towards short-term variations. This theory is unpopular in todays society as it argues for immediate self-gain(Guiso, Sapienza, Zingales, 2015). According to the moral rights theory, humans have elementary liberties that no way could be withdrawn by other peoples decision. Therefore, a choice that preserves right of all individuals related to an event of concern is said to be an ethical decision. There are six fundamental ethical rights that should be taken into account while making a choice during. First, the right to give approval freely states that any person should be treated as per their consent of free will. Second, the right to confidentiality concerns with the right of a person to abstain information about their private life. Third, the right of freedom of principles ensures that an Individual may abstain from abiding any order that violates their threatens their religious and ethical values. Fourth, the right of freedom of speech provides a person with right to criticize honestly the ethics or legality of other people actions. Fifth, the right of having unbiased decision entitles a person of having an unbiased hearin g and proper justice. Sixth, the right of life and security protects an individuals right to live a safe life and avoiding any situation that threatens it. It is important that managers understand these principles and do not interfere or violate these fundamental principles.(Bowen, 2013). The justice theory states that, moral choices must be taken based on the terms of equity, impartiality and fairness. Aristotle and Plato did the foundations of justice theory in the fifth century B.C. However, a significant contemporary contributor to this theory is John Rawls. Fairness, equity and impartiality are the major components of justice theory. There are three types of justice that concerns managers of any organization are; 1. distributive justice 2. procedural justice and 3. compensatory justice(Verssimo Lacerda, 2015). Distributive justice contemplates that difference in treatment towards people should not be based on random personality. Similar people concerning a decision should receive similar treatment. For example, gender bias should not reside in a work place. Female and male employees should receive similar salary if they perform similar duties. However, people who endowed with different jobs or if they have different skills, their salary may vary among them(van G ils, Van Quaquebeke, van Knippenberg, van Dijke, De Cremer, 2015). Procedural justice ensures fair administration of rules. Before enforcing any rule, it should be stated clearly and consistent as well as impartial enforcement should be done(Ferrell Fraedrich, 2015). Compensatory justice says that people who are responsible for any injustice or fault that have occurred must compensate for their actions. Moreover, people are not to be receiving punishment over matters one have no control(Asif, Searcy, Zutshi, Fisscher, 2013). Appreciating these approaches is a first step; managers will have to think of ways to implement them(Jin, Drozdenko, DeLoughy, 2013). These approaches present common principles that managers can be familiar with while making ethical decisions. The managers in the fraud in question, should have considered the the morals and ethics of the situation before committing such crimes. The situation demands for the managers to undergo procedural justice as well as compensatory justice. To certain extent, steps were taken in order to compensate for the losses the stakeholders suffered when VW announced to rebuild the engines. However, the agencies and the secondary consumers or the target customers were not compensated. The internal stakeholders who were not aware of the crimes the governing body was committing were also affected. In general, this scandal not only affected the justice system but also the entire society and more broadly it jeopardized the entire environment contributing to increase in global warming. The company deceived the society in so many ethical levels if we consider that when they were caught, VW officials denied what they did. Their unsympathetic attempt to compensate the people they deceived by presenting th em merely $1,000 and free of cost emergency roadside aid was not enough. According to Yotam Lurie who is a senior lecturer of business ethics at Ben-Gurion University in Israel it was acceptable for the software engineers to avoid their responsibility as professionals. Even if it was less efficient or economical, it was their liability to ensure safety, which in this case is the environmental safety. This scandal showed that ethics is just a word written in books that most people fail to follow. People are disobedient in nature. Agencies like the EPA enforce rules but professionals do their jobs in as they think is right as long as they do not get caught. It implies that it is okay to violate rules unless you are exposed. For such a fundamental systemic problem, there exists no particular solution. However, to prevent such scandals a routine study of ethics and principles for the leasers of the world is necessary. Volkswagen is not the first organization to commit such a felony and will not be that last one. Business and corporate ethics programs can outline the consequences of ethics violations so that one rethinks before committing such felony. Nearly all incidence of corporate felony, result in penalty but not criminal charges and prison sentences. The question is who will ensure that organizational or corporate decisions will be taken ethically? The burden always falls upon the leaders to enlighten the followers about morals and ethics. Here the leaders will not only be the leaders of the particular organization in question but also the government leaders as well. Leaders before taking any decision or passing judgment should analyze whether the decision or the judgment was ethical of not. In order to lead an organization in a just way it is important to have regards towards ethics and morals. Having principles and morals improves a persons character. For government leaders they have the responsibility to abide by law as well as law enforcement. Making strict laws against such felonies may ensure that these corporate organizations abide by ethics. A lot of companies and business organization face trouble because people have misunderstanding that, law or free will governs choices. People have a tendency to think presume that if something is not illegal, then it must be moral. However, ethics and morals have very different meaning from legality of any decision or situation. People must understand that there is a third domain that something could be legal and unethical at the same time. When values of an individual of values of a society are in conflict at that situation ethical dilemma arises. A person who is under the burden of taking moral decisions and implementing ethical decisions is the moral agent. These choices can be regarding personal choices, decisions to be taken for any organization or may be regarding society or any social issue. According to Friedman (2002), the only rule of business is to increase profit without jeopardizing any law or commit any fraud or scam(Christensen, Mackey, Whetten, 2014). Volkswagen did mislead both governmental agencies as well as customers. Here they did not abide by any laws, they broke environmental protection laws, and they cheated their customers as well as the society. They followed neither any law nor any ethics. For a brand of such a status, they have a responsibility towards world and society. Such brands tend to influence young minds. Leaders of such huge organizations tend to become role models for young minds. In order to bring a change in such cases a strong leader with morals and principals should be chosen to lead an organization. It would be the leaders responsibility to implement the ethical code to the employees so that the organization does not face such situation again. Government laws against such scandals should also be very strict. In these situations as mon ey tends to resolve matters it should be taken into account that this scenario ay influence young minds into thinking that it is okay to commit felony if they can pay their way out of legal proceedings. Laws regarding such issues need to be improvised. As a concluding not it can be added that, people need to apply moral and ethical codes in practical lives rather than just talking about it theoretically. In order to fully understand the current situation and how it is affecting the economy one must look at a variety of factors including: the history of oil crisis in the United States, causes of the current situation, and possible outcomes for the future. It is only after meticulous research in these topics that one is prepared to answer the question, what is the best possible solution to the oil crisis? Although many critics have not yet labeled the current oil situation a crisis, there is sufficient evidence that it is becoming more severe and is beginning to reflect oil crisis of the past. The current crude oil price spike began early in 1999 due to a variety of factors. Struggle in the Middle East along with minimal policy changes from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and the U.S. Government has kept prices high to this very day. The History of Oil Crisis Within the United States Before looking at the current oil situation, it is important to understand the times of oil crisis in our countrys past. Through the years between 1970 and 2000, the price of oil has risen and fallen in often-drastic amounts. It is these price fluxuations in crude oil that has caused fuel prices to vary and the economy of the United States to be volatile. Throughout the past twenty years there have been several drastic changes in oil prices. These dramatic shifts are helpful to look at because of their impact upon the economy and the oil industry. During this time period there are three major shifts in oil price that can be linked to specific events in world history (Miller, 1998). First, the Arab oil embargo of 1973 caused a widespread oil crisis and brought crude oil from three dollars a barrel to a staggering twelve dollars a barrel. Second, the 1979 Iranian revolution caused another crisis that brought crude oil prices to an all time high of thirty-six dollars per barrel. Finally, the third major shift occurred in 1991 due to the Persian Gulf War (Miller, 1998). ? Source: The Energy Information Administration (Hakes, 1998). Oil crisis of 1973 The first large price shift in oil prices came in 1973. The oil crisis of 1973 began in the Mediterranean because of a war. The Yom Kippur War was a result of an attack on Israel by Syria and Egypt an October 5, 1973. Throughout history, the United States has always shown support for Israel and its campaigns. This situation was no different. The United States and many countries in the western world showed strong support for Israel (Williams, 1999). As a result of this support, Arab exporting nations imposed an embargo on the nations supporting Israel (Williams, 1999). Because these nations had the power of a monopoly in the oil industry, they tried to use the embargo as a blackmail technique. The Arab nations began the embargo by curtailing oil production by five million barrels per day. In turn, the United States increased production in other countries by about one million barrels per day. The remaining net loss of four million barrels per day extended through March of 1974 and repr esented seven percent of the free-world production (Williams, 1999). The oil embargo was imposed by Arab oil producers through the then-powerful cartel, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)(Miller, 1998). OPEC was founded in 1960 with five members: Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela. Six other nations had joined OPEC by the end of 1971. These included Qatar, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Algeria, and Nigeria. This cartel had experienced a decline in the real value of their product since the foundation of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Williams, 1999). But in March of 1971, the power to control crude oil prices shifted from Texas and the United States to OPEC because of a change in governmental regulations. If there was any doubt that the ability to control crude oil prices had passed from the United States to OPEC, Wallace Benderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01227102999711003946noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-952990126546005339.post-74166122147856986852019-11-24T23:17:00.001-08:002019-11-24T23:17:05.014-08:00Jesse James essaysJesse James essays Jesse James has to be one of the most well known outlaws of United States history. Along with his brother Frank and their cohorts, the Younger brothers, they ransacked banks and trains across the western frontier, while winning their way into history and the hearts of Americans. Albert Castel takes the reader through the real life and death of the James gang. Frank James was born to Robert and Zerelda James on January 10, 1843. His younger brother Jesse followed him on September 5, 1847. The James' had a farm in Clay County Missouri. Robert was an ordained pastor of a Baptist church, as well a founder of William Jewell College at Liberty. Zerelda attended school at a local Catholic convent. The James name had a respectable and solid background until the late 1850's. In 1850 Robert caught the gold fever that was sweeping the nation, and moved to California. Unfortunately, all he ended up with was sickness and eventually death. After Robert left the family, Zerelda remarried two times. Her second husband was Benjamin Simms, who stayed with her only for a short while then died. Later in 1859 she met and married Dr. Ruben Samuel; he dedicated his life to working the James' family farm. Together he and Zerelda had four children, two boys and two girls. It isn't known how well or how badly Frank and Jesse dealt with their awkward childhood, actually no facts are known about either of the boys childhoods. By 1861, most of Missouri was siding with the union during the Civil War, however many slave holders in western Missouri sided with the Confederacy. This was true for the James-Samuel family. Young Frank joined the confederate forces of Major General Sterling Price at the young age of eighteen. Frank fought for the Confederacy until they were driven into Arkansas. From there along with many others, Frank fled back to his home and family. Cole Younger got his start as a "bushwhacker" in western Missouri. Cole joined th ... From the definition above, I would disagree that every manager is HR manager; however, I would argue that management of human resources is part of every managerââ¬â¢s job. Not every manager takes part in the recruitment and selection of employees, however, the rest of the definition of human resource management holds to every manager. Managers have the ability to functional guide their teams/departments, organization as whole and/or individual employees. For instance, the corrective actions in which managers perform effectively provide re-directional guidance for the employeesââ¬â¢ behaviors (Kumar, 2011). Every manager comes into contact with people hence manages them by doing some fundamental HR management. They are required effectively to influence the teams they head to complete the task, managing the individuals on the team make a portion of their job same as the HR manager. In the case, the team members fail to get along well, or other problems arise, the most likely per son to deal with the situation is the manager. Further, managers are undoubtedly involved in employee training and development. On the process, they evaluate them so as to promote them. Generally, every manager is plainly attempting to enhance the adequacy or effectiveness of their workers by regulating them, advising them, correcting them and motivating them (Kumar, Wallace Benderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01227102999711003946noreply@blogger.com0
